Extra Curricular – 12 Sport Seasons, 6 varsity. Captain of track. Business Club, came in top 5 in New England for a stock game. Invests independently(not sure if they care about this) Around 50 hours of community service.

You can but it’ll definitely be a reach school for you. If I were you I’d definitely apply to some of the other UMass campuses… dartmouth, boston..etc. Upward trend is good. They do like to see that. And you should really acknowledge the upward trend and state that you actually have put effort in to it..in your application essay.

Try to definitely tie in the majority of your activities into your major or the career or passion you plan on pursuing. Somtimes seeing a laundry list of activities really doesn’t impress them–it can actually have the opposite effect–connecting all the activities and classes somehow shows you have(or can at least lie about) having something you’re focusing on and are dedicated to.

Also.. I know this is true for public schools in california–I don’t know if this is true of MA public colleges but student in the area of CA public colleges are given preference. So if you live close to amherst.. you may have a better chance.

This is the type of “man” who thinks his “intelligence” should be enough to fetch his “soulmate”

If you can’t see beyond this mental barrier, you will never “get it”. “Getting it” isn’t some template of rules for you to follow, but more of an “a-ha” moment for an individual. It’s about an individual who put in the time and pain to take control and turn his pathetic luck with women around.

So, I am studying abroad in Ecuador this summer, and my friends are scaring me a bit… They say that the men in Latin America are extremely touchy and “overly-friendly” to young, pretty, blonde American girls (which is basically a description of me). I am becoming extremely worried about getting sexually harassed or worse…

Hi. I’m not blond, but I have experience as a foreigner living in Ecuador. Ecuadorians like anyone different. Guys in Ecuador like to harass ANY pretty girl. Being blond or (in my case) just not looking like the Ecuadorian girls make you stand out and makes the guys more apt to bother you.

For the most part the guys aren’t brave enough to approach you. They will just make strange hissing noises at you. I thinks it’s gross, it’s like their calling a dog. I guess it’s their version of a cat call. Other will say things to you as you walk by, like “mi reina”, “mi vida”, etc. Just ignore them! They really just want a reaction from you. Ignoring doesn’t make them stop completely, but they get the hint that you’re not interested.

And if you’re in bigger cities, this doesn’t happen as much. I’ve especially noticed in Quito that the groups of “paparazzi” are few and far between. I think guys in smaller areas just don’t have anything better to do.

But don’t be too worried about it. They aren’t likely to hurt you or anything. Just ignore them and they’ll keep their distance.

rio/paulo are like any big city. lots of good things, good people, good pickpockets, clever crooks,
living in youth hostel is safe. if u can get host family that will be fantastic.
if u can speak portuguese well, u wont have any major problem. you gotta be street wise. keep your money in the front pockets,special money belts. dont take $$ out in the public or open areas or crowded areas. keep passport safe. travel light. dont wear fancy clothes. dirty jeans, torn t-shirts will blend you with the people. no purses.
