The Best of Latin Travel

The beaches of Brazil come at the top of many people’s lists when it comes to Latin travel.  The large number of extremely beautiful resorts each having its own charm and beauty can be quite overwhelming. In north east Brazil, to the east of Sao Luiz, the Lencois National Park provides some of the best undeveloped beaches in all their pristine beauty, backed by glistening sand dunes running for a couple hundred kilometers. There is many a packages resort to choose from.

Brazil is very big in size and has some of the world’s best wildlife. If your Latin travel covers the Pantanal wetlands, then you will have ample opportunity to see a large variety of birds besides larger animals like anacondas, crocodiles and if you are lucky, even the jaguar. It will help if you select a packages resort close to your places of tour as it will help you save on time as well as money. Besides, a packages resort will take care of almost all your needs from airport pickup to almost anything else you might need.

The Amazon jungle in Brazil can also be a great experience. Awakening to the cries of the monkeys outside your lodge cab be a memorable experience. There is plenty of other wildlife to be seen too, but the experience can be really enchanting. Then the Iguazu Falls which border Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil are also covered under Latin travel. A lot of people rate this as number one in their Latin travel. For the most impressive views, you could visit the Iguazu Falls in the rainy season when it is really monstrous, roaring with the force of all the additional rain water.

Southern Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park is the top trekking destination of all Latin travel. It is a collection of granite peaks and lovely lakes that never failt to amze its visitors and there are plenty of trekking options that last even a week. Torres del Paine is about five hours by road from Punta Arenas which happens to be the nearest airport. The Atacama desert in Chile has its own beauty; volcanoes leap out of a desolate landscape filled with geysers. You also find fortresses from Inca-prior times as wells as stone age settlements that have been excavated.

The Machu Pichu Inca ruins are another often visited tourist attraction in Latin travel. Its location high up in the Andes is as spectacular as the ruins themselves. Travelers who are adventurous would rather travel to Machu Picchu along the Inca Trail, which works out to be a mountainous hike into the rain forests, mountains and Inca sites which lasts for four days.

The Galapagos Islands of Ecuador are pretty expensive but still one of the top choices of people opting for Latin travel. This is where Charles Darwin studied fauna and came up with the theory of evolution. Wildlife here includes whales, sharks, tortoises, turtles, seals sea lions and penguins besides a whole lot of bird life.

Lately, China has multiplied its investments in the economy of Latin American countries, notably in mining, petroleum, steel and railway infrastructure.

Latin American Art Growing in Popularity

A new generation of Latin American artists are ensuring that works from the region are attracting international buyers in increasing numbers. Up until thirty years ago the majority of works coming out of the region were purchased by wealthy Latin American families who would often build their collections up over many generations. Whilst South American buyers and those of Latino origin still make up the lion share of buyers from this diverse and exciting region, Virgilio Garza, Head of Latin American Art at Christies says the category is going increasingly international “The demographics of the clients has changed, little by little there were a lot of American collectors buying Latin American art seriously. Now in the past four years there are other players who have changed the dynamic. There are Europeans, Middle Eastern, some Asian buyers looking for specific things and even Russians have been regular buyers.â€Â  Auction house Bonhams have become aware of the increasing interest in the regions’ art and told Alternative Latin Investor they are working towards a fully committed Latin American catalogue in the future. Cindy Cronk, a street art specialist for Bonhams, based in California, sees a long term potential for South American art “I think its been on the radar for a while. Its slowly growing which is actually more stable than say with contemporary Chinese artists, now their works aren’t selling. I think it’s encouraging to see it slowly building up. I think it gives it more stability.â€

´Latin American Art´ is a contentious and very broad term that incorporates pre-Colonial, Colonial, an Independence period, Muralism from the last century and the modern era that has seen the emergence of exciting new talents. Though the given label has been shunned by some modern artists keen to emphasize movements within their own countries, Virgilio Garza feels the creation of the category was fundamental to its present day popularity “As a term Latin American art is very, very broad because it doesn’t really limit a time span. Latin America is so complex and there are a lot of regions so you cant really speak of one Latin American art. Ever since the beginning, the sale (at Christies) started including Spanish colonial works from the 18th century up to the present. So, in one sale you really covered centuries of art from many different regions that historically never really communicated with each other too much. Even though there was a Latin American identity there was a lot of artists, developed in the early 20th century, who were looking at Europe rather than Brazil. The catalogue and the category were very important for that reason because it really created awareness. For example Mexican collectors actually learnt about the art of other countries in Latin America just by receiving the catalogue, looking at it and coming.â€

Up until the 1970’s the majority of Latin American art was sold here and there, often mixed into impressionist, modern or fine art sales. In 1981 Christies made a landmark decision and held their first auction in New York dedicated solely to Latin American art. Virgilio Garza from Christies recalls there were incredible bargains to be had at the time “I remember all these Mexican families created very important collections by buying at auction back then. At the time a lot of great, great things were available more easily than now. For example if you look at a sale in 1982 you would find that there are masterpieces like Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and now you really have to go out of your way to get one of those.â€Â  Mexican painter Frida Kahlo is probably the best-known Latin American artist throughout the world today. She painted self- portraits and depictions of Mexican culture combining Realism, Symbolism and Surrealism. Whilst Kahlo died in 1954 it wasn’t until the 1980’s that her work began to the sort of attention that today sees her works sell for amongst the highest prices ever attracted by a female artist. Virgilio Garza says the “Kahlo effect†was very significant “In the 80’s Latin American works were priced at a million dollars and that was a big thing and then in the 90’s Frida Kahlo came along and there were a couple of works in the field that sold and she surpassed the two million dollar mark which was an important landmark. Then not long ago, Frida Kahlo surpassed the US$5 million dollar mark it may not sound that impressive if you see other figures from the contemporary or impressionist world, but it’s important.â€

Christies currently hold two Latin American auctions each year, one in May and one in November. In 2003 the May sale realized US$5,702,796 (see table), whereas, to give an indication of how interest has grown, by May last year their auction set a world record for the field by auctioning works to a value of over US$33 million. This auction also contained a world record for a single piece by a Latin American artist as Rufino Tamayo’s, Trovador sold for US$7,209,000, eclipsing the previous record of US$5,616,00 paid for Frida Kahlo’s Roots in May 2006. Trovador led a series of important new records for Mexican modern art including Leonora Carrington, Pedro Cornel, Juan Soriano, and Emilio Baz Viaud.  In addition to the Mexican success, other notable Latin American records were set for Jesús Rafael Soto, Gonzalo Fonseca, and Mario Carreño.

As the Christies sales table shows, the art industry is not immune from the current global crisis. At their last auction held in November last year Christies only realized just under half the amount of the previous record sale but Garza is not concerned for the long-term prospects “We are very optimistic because our field is not one that has huge ups and downs. People are still buying and we think that we may be going back to 2006 levels more or less when the market was good but it wasn’t as high as it was at the end of 2008 beginning 2009. We have a very exciting sale coming up in May so we hope people are going to respond.â€Â  And whilst prices may be down at present Garza feels it offers opportunities not available in other sectors of art “It’s a very young category. I always say it and ill keep saying it, we are very good value and there is great quality. If you have a million dollars you can build a serious collection as opposed to other categories where the art is so expensive your money may not go that far.â€

If a Tamayo, a Rivera or a Kahlo is beyond your reach it may be worthwhile investigating the latest strand of Latin America art attracting much attention according to Virgilio Garza “Something that has been happening and its an incredible phenomenon is that a lot of artists from the 60’s and 70’s are being rediscovered big time. What is attracting interest is lot of geometric abstraction, Pop Art artists like (Venezuelan) Jesus Rafael Soto, who had had a very important career in the 60’s and 70’s then sort of fell out of fashion. There are different schools and movements but I would say geometric abstraction from the 60’s & 70’s is very hot now. Those are artists that were forgotten and the 80’s weren’t very good to them. In the 90’s little by little people were looking at them again. Now there is a real market for them.†During his exclusive interview with Alternative Latin Investor Virgilio Garza, Head of Latin American Art at Christies gave us some more of his hot tips for investing in the market at the moment “I would say a very successful artist who sells both in Latin and the contemporary sales is Vik Muniz from Brazil. There is a another Brazilian who we have sold very well called Adriana Varejao as well as a Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco who sells more with the contemporary sales.â€

Whilst works by artists such as Kahlo have undoubtedly been fundamental in giving Latin American art the profile it now enjoys, there is a new, refreshing generation who are taking the regions’ art in new directions. Cindy Cronk from Bonhams specializes in street art and finds inspiration in what is happening in Sao Paolo, Brazil “My personal interest is in street artists coming out of Brazil. In Sao Paolo there is a gallery called Choque Cultural and they offer some really interesting artists. I like Calma and Zezão a lot but there is some amazing artists just working on the streets there. Graffiti and mural art they are actually bringing in. Sometimes they’ll actually do it on gallery walls. They do a lot of screen prints, which are actually quite affordable to anyone starting out. We have urban sales, but I think eventually if its strong enough we could build an entire Latin American sale from the early works through to what is going on now.â€

As well as contemporary artists emerging from the Brazilian street scene there is an important generation of young artists in Mexico City doing very well internationally and Puerto Rico can boast a new scene that is gaining international recognition. Besides her passion for artists from Brazil, Cindy Cronk feels that other countries provide interesting options for the collector and that interest in her home state of California has never been greater. “I think every Latin American country has some artists such as Fernando Botero is from Colombia. The museum of Latin American Art here in Long Beach that’s another example of the strength of Latin American Art, especially here in California. That they have a museum dedicated to it is partly due to the collectors. We have some serious collectors here in Southern California and the museums have benefited from that as they have donated their collections to these museums. MOLA is getting ready to have an exhibit on Oswaldo Guayasamin from Ecuador, its very intense art.â€

As Latin American art enjoys a more international profile attracting interest from investors from all over the world, it should be remembered that until recently it was wealthy families from countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Argentina that patronized South American artists. Cindy Cronk told Alternative Latin Investor that the majority of their clients still come from the U.S.A and Mexico but that they now have to compete for that special work with a world market “all the great Mexican artists, like Diego Rivera, typically are going to collectors in Florida, California, a little bit in the south west like Arizona, Texas and in Mexico. We have some serious collectors in Mexico but people are bidding on this from all over the world. Since our company is based in London we have a huge client base and its truly international. During our sales we will have two tables filled with phone bidders…that’s people bidding from all over the world!†And if you do plan on bidding and are new to investing in art, Cindy has some sound advice “As with the western world the established artists are still selling and the prices are still really strong and I think that Art will always be a good investment. The number one rule that I tell people is buy what you like, but you definitely want to do your research. I think you are going to get a quicker return if you are investing in the more established artists. For me looking towards the urban artists I think there will be some who will maintain their prices and actually really end up having successful careers. It’s a good time to buy art, especially right now. I think the prices are back to reality a bit.â€

Vacation Spots Where You Could Still Get More for Your Dollar

I know you’ve been dying to take that long-planned trip to Europe where you can try out your new skis on the Swiss alps, marvel at the impressive cathedrals in Italy, take a tour of the ancient ruins in Greece, and maybe even meet the Queen in London (although you’ll need a whole lot of luck for the last one). This pesky little thing called the economy however has decided to spoil your vacation plans. With the weakening dollar, a European trip is now a lot more expensive and way beyond your budget.

Don’t store your suitcase away just yet though. While it is all too real that the US currency is on a steady downward trend, there are still a number of vacation spots where you can get more for your buck. They may not be quite as grandiose as Europe but they’re just as enjoyable and may even have more in store for the adventurous traveler.

First up is Argentina. With this destination, you won’t have to miss Europe as much. Breath-taking landscapes, beautiful architecture, vibrant cosmopolitan lifestyle in the capital, and an ardent love for football, Argentina is as close to Europe as you can get. The country’s currency suffered a traumatic collapse in 2001 but has recovered in large measure since then. The dollar still enjoys a strong value here though and travelers can definitely have a blast since dining and accommodations cost almost half as much as in the West.

For more of Latin American atmosphere, you can also visit Costa Rica. This country offers pristine beaches, rivers, and rainforests; certainly a welcome relief from the harried rush of the metropolis. For nature lovers, Costa Rica is a well-preserved haven. This is one of the best places to go snorkeling, rafting, kayaking, or to just simply be in awe of earth’s natural wonders. Costa Rica used to be a well-kept secret among backpackers and biologists but it has recently been receiving a much larger influx of travelers.

Right in the heart of Europe is another weak dollar-friendly travel destination. I’m talking about the Czech Republic. Yeah I know, we’re supposed to veer away from ultra expensive euro territories but this vacation spot happens to fit our itinerary. Although the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, it still hasn’t adopted the euro as its official currency. Prague, the capital, is famous for its historic Gothic castles and is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Tucked away in the Czech countryside are a variety of spas, thanks to the abundance of natural springs and mud. Forget the overpriced spa treatments in the US; you can avail of a whole body massage with aromatherapy in Czech Republic for as low as $35.

Southeast Asia is another choice destination if you want to get more for your dollar. One of the most popular travel spots here is Thailand where you can find a conglomeration of panoramic sceneries, bustling nightlife, historic temples, and even royalty. The country is also well-known for its flavorful cuisines which has widely influenced even the Western culinary scene. What better way to discover the authentic taste of Thai dishes than to immerse yourself in this fascinating country.

Vietnam is also a good choice if you want to further explore Southeast Asia. The rural scenes in this country remain virtually untouched, still displaying their idyllic charms in the midst of fast-paced modernization. The natural reserves in Vietnam are also worth exploring while first-class hotels in the capital can be enjoyed for half the price of their US counterparts.

More To Brazil Than Carnivals

Brazil was a colony of Portugal from the landing of Pedro Alvares Cabral in 1500 until its independence in 1822. Brazil’s climate has little seasonal variation since most of the country is located within the tropics. Brazil’s production and consumption of biodiesel relative to its energy matrix is expected to reach to 2% of diesel fuel in 2008 and 5% in 2013. Brazil has the largest population of Italian origin outside of Italy, with over 25 million Italian Brazilians, the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, with 1.

Brazil continues to pursue industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior. Brazil has had to be bailed out in times of economic crisis, but reforms in the 1990s, including privatisations, brought some financial stability. Brazil is the giant of South America with nearly half of the continent’s area and people; worldwide it ranks fifth in both area and population, which is as diverse as it is large.

Brazil has one of the most advanced industrial sectors in Latin America. Brazil’s vast territory covers a great variety of land and climate, for although Brazil is mainly in the tropics (it is crossed by the equator in the north and by the Tropic of Capricorn in the south), the southern part of the great central upland is cool and yields the produce of temperate lands. Brazil is South America’s biggest and most influential country and takes up almost half the continent.

Brazilas air transportation system has been in disarray since accidents with fatalities occurred in September 2006 and July 2007. Brazilians see time as something outside their control and the demands of relationships takes precedence over adhering to a strict schedule. Brazilian law requires that for all travel, Brazilian children (including dual nationals) must carry a letter of consent from the non-travelling parent(s) authorising travel.

The Brazilian population is concentrated along the coastline and in a few large urban centers in the interior. Sugar became by far the most important Brazilian colonial product until the early 18th century. Portugal would recognize Brazil as an independent country in 1825. The legal system is bases on the Federal Constitution, promulgated on October 5, 1988, and is the fundamental law of Brazil.

The Northeast region is inhabited by about 30% of Brazil’s population. Most of Brazil has moderate rainfall of 1,000 to 1,500 millimeters a year, with most of the rain falling in the summer (between December and April), south of the Equator.

Grandpa and the Deer

At first, he thought they were the noblest of creatures. Everyday one or two would visit our meadow, grazing like little brown and white lawn mowers across the four acre expanse. “Beautiful creatures,” he would smile. But by the time the whole ordeal reached its volcanic conclusion, the fuzzy four-legged former friends would be forever known as Devil Deer ― The Purveyors of Hell. I had never seen anything like it except, perhaps, in Donald Duck cartoons. My dad had gone off the deep end when it came to what the calmer part of the family tree jokingly dubbed “The Deer War.”

Dad is a retired nurseryman, as was his father before him. It is in his blood. Grandfather to eleven adult grandchildren, my youngest came as a surprise, and Dad happily discovered that his new (and probably last) granddaughter, Alex, was the only grandkid who arrived with a green thumb. Dad was so proud, and it didn’t matter that Alex was a girl. As only someone born before the days of women’s lib and Gloria Steinem could say with a straight face, “Girls are capable nurserymen too, you know.”

Over the summer of her seventh year, Dad taught Alex any and everything about plants, and was particularly proud of the way she could pronounce the Latin names. Mom was overjoyed that Dad finally had a plant buddy.

On misty mornings Dad would mutedly call Alex into the front room for an up-close look at the beautiful creatures grazing in the meadow. Alex called it the Bambi Show, as Dad and she would gaze appreciatively at the majestic deer. Dad would snap picture after picture of “his” deer, showing his prized photographs to anyone he could snare. Then, came the day: planting time for the vegetable garden and flower garden.

From years of experience, Dad knew what deer like to eat and so he made an effort to plant marigolds along the garden perimeter in a humane bid to stave off the deer that might happen to view his new garden as more of a kitchen. “The marigold smell keeps the deer in the meadow,” he confidently declared. “There’s plenty to eat out there,” he would tell Alex.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?

So Dad and Alex planted zucchini, watermelons, carrots, green beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes, and every day was filled taking care of that pretty little garden. The neighbors marveled at the bounty Dad’s garden produced. People would drive past our colorful place with the stunning flower gardens and the orange and yellow dahlias, where sweet smelling roses, bonny sunflowers, tall stately hollyhocks and the morning glories that Alex had planted from seed made their home along the flagstone path.

Dad had laid all the path stones himself and planted the fast spreading Moneywort groundcover sneaking between each stone. Breathtaking. As a botanical piece’ résistance, Mom purchased two massive petunia plants in huge baskets and hung them next to the back door.

One day, Dad happily noticed not just the usual two deer but seven; two adults and five fawns, to be exact. They were the cutest little things, following their mamas all over the meadow, eating the meadow grass down, and as the days passed, they began to move a little closer to the house. One morning he noticed the petunias in the three foot baskets had just disappeared. Dad’s eyes narrowed as he recognized the telltale signs that trouble was afoot, and it had arrived on four feet! There were little droppings on the ground and when Alex asked what they were, he mumbled something about them not being Raisinettes. “That my dear, is war.”

The deer had gotten to Mom’s precious petunias; a line in the sand (or in this case, soil) had been crossed.

Next went the sunflowers. If Dad wasn’t already bald, he would have been from pulling his hair out. He wanted to protect his vegetable garden and that is when Alex got an education.

Dad erected twirling ground flower stakes in an opening volley to scare the Devil Deer away.

CASUALTIES OF WAR

He was already resigned to losing casualties every day, and those cheeky deer had no compunction about walking up on our porch ― right up the stairs ― and munching every rose off its stem.

Dad would tear onto the porch armed with a pot and a spoon, and bang the heck out of the pan. Early in the game the deer would scatter in all directions. It was like watching Donald Duck with the chipmunks.

But there was soon a point when they wouldn’t even glance up whenever Donald Dad flew out the door, pot and spoon at the ready. They must have thought he was playing music just for them. They would merely stare at the crazy man with flowers hanging out of both sides of their mouths (The deer mouths, not Dad’s…).

Now we were up to eight deer; one more plus Santa and a sleigh and we’d really be in business.

Then it happened; the vegetable garden took a hit. A new theatre of war had been declared.

By this time, Dad was experiencing knee problems so he would send out his little soldier, Private Alex, armed with the pot and spoon. Even with Dad’s bad knee he would sometimes hobble out to the battlefield with his cane and wave it up and down. “You Devil Deer! Did you come from Hell? Get out of here. That’s my dinner you’re eating. Those are my beans!” The only thing missing from the cane was the white flag.

We could almost see the deer laughing, enjoying the excitement of it all. Alex launched a new offensive, running through the garden with her umbrella open, and that seemed to snap the deer out of their green bean coma and they would run. Well, not exactly run; more like a saunter.

DON’T’ FENCE ME IN

Dad bought some fencing. He laid netting over the green beans and around the whole garden area. “That should take care of it,” Dad harrumphed. That very evening, I looked out the window to see all eight deer inside the fencing, their faces under the netting enjoying their green beans. And they were their beans, don’t let anyone kid you. They knew someone had planted a smorgasbord just for them. Not since the Pilgrims and the Indians had such a feast been laid.

Dad was livid. He complained all day long about the Devil Deer. He bought magazine after magazine to find the cure. Here he had been a nurseryman all his life and had never had such a problem with deer. The Devil Deer had ended up smashing all his watermelons as they stumbled through the garden to gobble up the cucumbers. They had to be stopped.

And now, the incident that once and for all sent Dad over the edge.

One day, near dusk, he looked out the back porch and saw all eight deer wolfing down Alex’s morning glories; the ones that she had so painstakingly grown from seed. “ALEX!” he shouted. “Get the umbrella!” She came bounding down the stairs and headed automatically out to the veggie garden until she saw what the deer were eating. “NOT MY MORNING GLORIES!” She grabbed her umbrella and started flapping it like wings. “GET OUT OF HERE!” She rushed the door as fast as her eight-year-old little legs could carry her, and chased the deer off the porch. She wrangled them into the meadow, screaming at the top of her lungs, and although the deer looked at her like they couldn’t believe what this crazy little creature was doing, she did scare them away.

She also scared our neighbor who jumped off his tractor and came flying over to our house to see “if Alex had been shot or something.” When we explained to him about the sacred morning glories and the Devil Deer, he just shook his head.

“It’s time to let it go Harold. You even got your granddaughter all wound up!” Dad didn’t say a thing. He actually didn’t say much after that day.

Two weeks passed without a single word about the deer.

“Did a package come for me?”

“No Dad, are you expecting something?”

He’d shake his head no, but four weeks later a package arrived. The stamps announced that the mystery package had originated in a foreign country. It seems that internet banking scams are not the only things that come from Nigeria. The box was about a ten inch cube and it smelled faintly of cat urine.

“Dad, what is this?” I asked, wondering what the faint odor of cat urine rising from the package could possibly mean.

He grabbed the package from me, trying his best to mask the mischievous grin on his face. “Nobody eats my granddaughter’s morning glories!” He opened the package and it turned out that it actually was cat pee but, not the kind you’d imagine. He had ordered lion urine from Nigeria to pour in the garden. “Grandpa, how do they get the pee?” asked Alex. “From the circus,” he replied.

“You didn’t, Harold.” Mom gasped. “Did you actually order lion pee to scare those deer away?” she asked, with a disgusted look on her face. “Do you think our deer will even recognize the smell of lion pee? How much did you pay for that?”

I don’t think Dad heard a single word she said as he headed for the garden with his cane, a little girl’s umbrella, and a box of Nigerian lion pee. As I watched him hobble to the garden with a new mission, and a revived sparkle in his eye, I knew that I wasn’t going to be the one to tell him that there are no lions in Nigeria.

Why are there so few Asian Models in America?

I subscribe to alot of fashion magazines, and i stay very up to
date on current fashion trends. However i have noticed there are
extremely few Asian Models.. I see an increasing number

It strikes me as strange because Asian women are beautiful!
I am mostly speaking of East Asian,

but i see even fewer Middle Eastern Models if any
whom are also very beautiful-in fact you never
see any Middle Eastern women in movies-i saw

diversity what do you think?
BTW, I am Caucasian

Yes racial diversity is great……but some cultures a modle is like the lowest on the totem pole. Such as arabic women. im sure u know about their culture…..cover up all exposed skin. As far as asian models in the industry i think its a height issue….not a cultural or the fact that they arent beautiful enough. to be a model u have to be tall extremely tall for a woman and i think thats why it is so hard to find them in the industry.

Bikini Waxing – Bikini & Brazilian Waxing 101

The bikini and Brazilian wax are more popular than ever. Here we will look at the advantages of doing both and you will see why the Bikini and Brazilian wax are so popular.

While some women may still avoid bikini waxing, opting instead for the tried and tested razor, many more are taking the plunge and going all the way with the Brazilian wax.

Bikini waxing traditionally, removes only the hair that is visible around the bikini area. Brazilian waxing is a method of hair removal that removes all of the hair from the genital region.

Not for the feint hearted, Brazilian waxing is a trend that has grown in popularity for both men and women.

While bikini waxing remains popular, a Brazilian wax is undoubtedly the best way to achieve a smooth, sensual clean look and feel around the bikini area.

Bikini Waxing

Regular bikini waxing involves the application of warm wax to the area around the bikini line. A strip of cloth is pressed on top and then immediately ripped off against the direction of the hair growth.

Brazilian Waxing what it entails

Brazilian waxing focuses on the genital area and involves the removal of hair from the areas around the vagina, perineum and anus.

The entire genital area is covered with talcum powder before hot oil is applied and the hair removed.

As with bikini waxing, the hair is removed by pressing a strip of cloth on top of the oil and then ripping it off against the direction of the hair growth.

Contrary to popular belief, Brazilian waxing does not necessarily involve complete hair removal. Some people choose to leave a ‘landing strip’, a line of hair above the vagina.

Different beauty therapists may use slightly different approaches. Some may use a strip of cloth as is used in regular waxing, while others may use just the hot wax, which as it cools, shrink wraps the hairs and pulls them from the roots.

Any stray hairs are removed with a pair of tweezers.

Brazilian Waxing – What to Expect

Having a Brazilian wax will involve you adopting various positions that you may find a bit embarrassing!

Expect to contort your body, be on all fours, hold your legs up in the air, to the side, over the therapist’s shoulder and anywhere necessary in order for wax to be applied and hair removed.

For a Brazilian wax, your pubic hair is required to be about a quarter inch in length and so it may be necessary for your therapist to trim it down to this length.

After all the hair has been removed a soothing lotion is applied to the area.

What Are the Advantages of Brazilian Waxing?

Lasts between ten days and three weeks

You feel clean, shiny and smooth

Your partner may find it erotic

Enhances intercourse

What are the Disadvantages of Brazilian Waxing?

The only real disadvantage is the pain but this lessens with subsequent Brazilian waxing and most people think it’s worth it.

Where to get a Brazilian Wax

If you are a wax virgin it may be an idea to start with a regular bikini wax first before graduating to the Brazilian wax and in all cases this is a treatment that you should definitely have done by a professional.

Is it Worth it?

For most people Brazilian waxing provides a long lasting sensual feeling that is definitely worth 15 minutes of discomfort (and embarrassment!) and can be enjoyed by both you and your partner.
